Internet Tarrif Slashed
Consequent to TRAI Gazette Notification No. 16 dated 15-3-99 wherein the ceilings for port charges were specified and for the other charges forbearance was accorded; the following are the tariffs for the Internet Services, effective from 1-4-99.

This circular order has four categories, namely; Category A - Dial Up Services, Category B - Internet Leased Line Services, Category C - Web Hosting Services, Category D - Deptl Internet PCO Rates with the following tariff structure for each:-

Category A : Dial Up Services

1.0 Terminal Dial Up Service
 

i	Registration fee (one time, non-refundable)	Rs.500/-
ii	Annual (or 500 hours, whichever is earlier) usage charges	Rs.5000/-
iii	Password alteration/reintroduction fees	Rs.100/- (each  time)

1.1 Terminal Dial Up Service (for students)
 

i	Registration fee	Nil
ii	Annual (or 500 hours whichever is earlier) usage charges	Rs.500/-
iii	Password alteration/reintroduction fees	Rs.100/- (each time)

Students of Class X1 and above can avail this service by registering in the prescribed form. Verification of the
bonafides of students will be done from certificate signed by the Principal or Head of the recognized academic
(non-commercial) institution to the effect that the person concerned is a full time student of the said institution
and is likely to remain a student for the academic year. The certificate should mention identity card number of
the student issued by that institution and the Government/authority by whom the institution itself recognised.
Such certificate will be required at every of the subscription of Internet Service.

2.0 TCP/IP Dial Up accounts

2.1 TCP/IP PSTN dial up accounts
(As per DOT letter no.111-1/95-PHC (Vol.11)Pt dt. at New Delhi the 26-10-99)
The tariff for the TCP/IP dial up Accounts has been revised and reduced as given below effective from 1.11.1999.

Message From Principal General Manager Telcom Coimbatore. (08 - 03 -1999)

Dear Customer ,

In our endeavour to improve Internet access we have recently added additional 64 PSTN Lines for TCP/IP Account at Coimbatore node. To some extent this has eased conjestion and I hope now you are able to access the Net easily.

To improve the access further, we have opened a seperate access code 172225, only for VSNL email Accounts. This is only for TCP/IP accounts and web surfing is not possible. As you know, email transmissions are of short holding time and provision of seperate route for these will result in better utilisation of the Net.

Coimbatore Internet node is the first to introduce this facility among the nodes operated by DOT.
I will be thankful for your feedback on the measures we are taking to improve the services.

The number of lines for the Internet access (TCP/IP Account) at Coimbatore has been increased by 64 lines. The access code remains the same viz. 172222.

Calling Line Identification (CLI )

On the eve of the Republic Day (26 Jan'99) Coimbatore Telecom has launched two services to its Customers.This facility is made available in E-10 B and AXE Type Electronic Exchanges at present. The exchange codes and whom to contact to get the facility are given in Annexure I.

In this facility, if the CLI device is attached to the telephone it will display the telephone number of the calling telephone including STD Code.

Due to technical reasons in some type of exchanges and the network, ID of some calls may not be available.

The facility is likely to be made available in other types of exchanges in Coimbatore District, during the course of next six months after completion of software modifications.

The CLI device should be procured and installed by the subscribers themselves.

Tariff for the service:

Rs.50/- for activation/deactivation and

Rs.50/- monthly fee.

Internet Access for ISDN Customers: (Integrated Services Digital Network).

The internet node at coimbatore caters to only normal telephone customers.

To provide access to the NET for ISDN Customers of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, a special router is now provided.

ISDN subscribers can access the NET at 64 kbps now. The speed will be increased to 128 kbps in due course.

Internet Tariff for ISDN Customers is given in Annexure II.

Internet Expansion

The Internet node at Coimbatore is being augmented by additional 60 lines by mid February '99.

A high capacity Internet Server is expected to be commissioned in Coimbatore in about six months.
