LOUIS BANKS

Louis Banks has been spearheading the JAZZ movement in India for the past twenty five years. he has been singularly instrumental in keeping JAZZ alive and popular in India. He considers that his mission. He has been unanimously hailed as India's greatest JAZZ keyboards. Through sheer hardwork, self-discipline, unfailing direction, he has become a world class musician. He now leads and performs his Fusion band SILK and his Mainstream Band: THE LIGHT OF FREEDOM BAND. Louis Banks, as somebody rightly remarked, is truly the Godfather of Jazz in India.

SHANKAR MAHADEVAN

The vocals genius of the band. Shankar's remarkable vocal virtuosity provides the INDIAN Thematic backbone to the SILK sound. Shankar's versatility, his soulful lyricism, his dare devil vocal vocal pyrotechnics, a razor sharp unerring sense of time and a phenomenal memory, coupled with a enviable knowledge of Indian Raga fundamentals and a natural understanding of JAZZ harmonic progression, makes him an irreplaceable component of SILK. Apart from being a vital part of SILK Shankar is a much-in-demand singer in INDIAN films. He also regularly performs and tours, in India and abroad with the popular Swedish fusion Band MYNTA.

SIVAMANI

Sivamani brings to SILK his extraordinary rhythmic virtuosity, his charismatic presence and his dynamic showmanship. Schooled in both Carnatic rhythm school and western jazz drums, he is the perfect percussionist, to propel forward a SILK performance. Sivamani's achievements in the field of music, his associations with some of the best musician's in the world, would fill many many pages. He has played all over the world with great international artists. He is regular member of Zakir Husain's world drums ensemble. Sivamani continues to grow as musician, he keeps searching for new techniques, new sounds and newer rhythmic configurations. The magic of Sivamani is an integral part of the SILK sound.

KARL PETERS

The SILK band could not have hoped for a better anchorman on bass than Karl. Karl is unanimously acknowledge of western JAZZ harmonies, his grasp of Indian modes and melodic concept, makes him an invaluable part of the SILK group. Karl had performed all over the world with Louis Banks and has always been a favorite with the audience. His solos are one of the main features in a SILK performance and it is always funky, masterly, lyrical and full of soul and swing. Apart from playing with SILK Karl performs extensively with many groups with varied musical styles. That's Karl, he loves to play and so he is the most-in-demand bass player in the country today. As the saying goes. When Karl plays, he always delivers. A Living legend already and SILK is richer by his presence.

SRIDHAR PARTHASARATHY

Undoubtedly, he is one of the finest mridhangam artists in India. He has command over Taavil, the Ghattam and even dabbles with the Bamboo flute, which is why there is lyricism in his rhythmic explorations.
