Idea conceived by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda in early 70's. Overwhelming response from all over the world.

Coimbatore was shortlisted after evaluation of alternate sites at Bangalore, Lucknow, Andamans and Himachal Pradesh.

In 1984, Swami Sahayanandaji traversed the length and breadth of India on foot, to make the initial collection of Re 1/- from each individual for the purchase of the land.

In 1994 Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji with his indomitable vigour and energy proceeded to concretize the vision of Pujya Gurudev. The work progressed by leaps and bounds.

On June 6th 1996, the CIRS was inaugurated by Pujya Swami Chidanandaji, Gurubhai of Pujya Gurudev and President of 'The Divine Life Society'.

The school started with 96 students from grade 5 to 8, 11 academic staff headed by Dr.Jaya Venugopal, Brni. Sumati Chaitanya and Br. Samahita Chaitanya as spiritual guides.

Sri G.V. Eswar, Sri. K.P.Daswani and many devotees around the world contributed generously. Swami Vimalanandaji and Dr.G.S.Keshawamurthy played a significant role in guiding and executing the project to its completion.
