This
temple is located in Anamalai on the Pollachi - Topslip Road, about
65 kms from Coimbatore. Maha Kumbabhishekam was performed on November
9, 2000.
When
'Naanan' was the ruler of Anamalai, he had a favourite mango tree in
his farm on the banks of Aaliyar river. No one was permitted to access
the tree and its produces. Once when a group of girls were taking bath
in the river, they saw a mango from Nanans tree floating. One of the
girls picked it up and ate it, inspite of her father warning her not
to do so. Enraged by this, the king sentenced her to death. Later, the
inmates of the village made an idol in lying state in remembrance of
the innocent girl and started worshipping her. In due course she was
worshipped as 'Maasani'.
When 'Kozhinkhosargal'
defeated king 'Naanan', he felled that particular mango tree. It is
believed that Lord Rama, when in forest, stopped by to meditate here,
which added glory to this temple.
