Blumenthal
technique incorporates the use of a special device known as anterior
chamber maintainer(ACM) as shown above with the following added advantages

Anterior
chamber is fully formed and maintained by the ACM throughout the procedure.

Delivery
of the Cataract/Nucleus with the sheet glide placed under the tipped pole
of the nucleus reduces the endothelial damage to Cornea.

The closed
chamber technique of cortex aspiration reduces corneal folds to a great
extent and thereby facilitates very early visual rehabilitation
-
The smaller
scleral tunnel wound is very stable and even foldable IOLs can be implanted
using 3.5 to 4mm incision and therefore this procedure is in par with Phacoemulsification
technique.
